COURSE TITLE: Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse Training
Prevention, Detection and Management of ElderAbuse in Residential Care Settings.
|Aimed at||All Staff.|
|Goals of the course||To increase their knowledge and understanding of what ElderAbuse is. To teach them the knowledge and skills needed to identify Abuse, mistreatment and neglect - including covert/hidden Abuse or Abuse in its early stages. To help them identify care practices that might lead to or contribute to ElderAbuse. Understand the actions they need to take if they discover/suspect that ElderAbuse is taking place. To assist Staff to understand and meet requirements set out in Section 8 – Protection - the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland (HIQA).|
Define ElderAbuse and Identify the 6 types of ElderAbuse.
To Recognise the signs and symptoms that Abuse is taking place.
To understand that Abuse can happen anywhere and at any time.
To understand that Abuse can be committed by anyone.
To know how to deal with reporting ElderAbuse if they witness or suspect that ElderAbuse is taking place.
To understand that if they do not report incidents/suspicion of ElderAbuse then they are complicit in that Abuse.
To ensure a consistent, appropriate and person centred response to the reporting and management of suspicions, and or allegations.
